CPAC Update 03/14/2020
Dear CPAC Family and Greater Community:
Your safety is always our priority and together we will overcome the current challenges in these uncharted waters. Below, you will find the Chastain Park Athletic Club’s current status as we approach our 19th summer pool season. In addition, we are providing helpful information from Public Health authorities, as well as technical information on how we treat our pool water in Chastain Park.
Moreover, we are hosting a Swim Clinic for kids at our pool with Olympian Rowdy Gaines on Saturday, April 11th as well as have registration open for Summer Pool Memberships and our summer league Tidal Waves Swim Team. Our coaching staff and volunteers will be in contact as we get closer to our summer pool season. Opening Day is scheduled for Monday, May 11th.
The Chastain Park Athletic Club has suspended our CPAC year-round programs as of noon today, Saturday, March 14th until further notice. The teams include USA Swimming (kids) and US Masters (adults), as well as our GA Special Olympics partner. We initially expect this pause in training to last about two weeks in line with Governor Kemp’s request for limited public interactions. However, everything is contingent on the most current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and potential governmental decisions that may impact us. We will keep you informed.
In the meantime, we will continue to work on ongoing facility improvements and maintenance issues to prepare for your return to the water. Also, you may not be aware, CPAC has a state-of-the-art disinfection system in our 80 year-old swimming pool in Chastain Park, which produces incredibly clean water. It starts with the best filtration system in the marketplace. Next, it kills any contaminants left in the water after filtration with an innovative system utilizing a specialized Hydroxyl-based oxidation process. Last, we inject Chlorine in the water at levels, which are more than required by the Health Code. The result is safe, beautiful, clean, soft water, which is highly chlorinated, but you do not even know it. BTW, Chlorine kills viruses as well, so we have a redundant disinfectant system to serve you.
According to the CDC website:
“There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”
Here are some useful links for learning about the COVID-19 from the CDC, GA Public Health, and the World Health Organization.
On Saturday, April 11th, we are scheduled to host a swim clinic for children with Olympian Rowdy Gaines. To reserve a spot, register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/swim-clinic-with-olympian-rowdy-gaines-presented-by-hammer-head-swim-caps-registration-97615361173 . (Refunds will be issued if cancelled)
CPAC Summer Programs:
Registration is OPEN for our Summer Pool Memberships and ASA Champion – Summer League Tidal Waves Swim Team at http://www.chastainparkathleticclub.org/ . Opening day is scheduled for Monday, May 11th, which will be the first day of swim practice as well. Also, our Adult Summer League – Chastain Park Swim Team will open registration in the near future. At this time, we do not plan to start scheduling swim lessons until sometime in mid-April.
CPAC Year-round Teams:
We have rolling registration for our CPAC USA Swimming program for kids and US Masters program for adults, which each train 12 months a year and currently paused.
