CPAC Update from 05/01/2020
We hope your family is safe and well. CPAC wants to let you know we remain optimistic about the summer season. Moreover, we are thankful for all the frontline workers in healthcare, public safety, and the military for keeping us safe. In addition, it is hard to fathom that 30 million of our fellow citizens are now unemployed in less than two months time, but we will all persevere.
As you can imagine, CPAC is dealing with many variables and adjusting on a daily basis with the goal of getting us all back in the water in a safe environment. Along these lines, CPAC has participated in national webinars and discussions with other aquatic professionals, which included representatives of the CDC. In the meantime, we continue to improve our facility and make necessary repairs, as well as clean and consider new protocols depending on the curve of the virus.
Our exact Opening Day hinges on the decisions by the many different levels of government we serve under, resources and staffing. On the federal level, we have a three phase set of economic guidelines and the CDC guidelines continuing to emphasize 6 ft of social distancing, good hygiene, etc. On GA state level, a slow reopening of the economy has started and vulnerable populations have been asked to remain in shelter-in-place mode.
At the Fulton County level, all commercial and public pools inspections (required for summer opening) have been delayed till at least May 13th. At the Atlanta city level, services are still suspended at public facilities and a Stay-at-Home order is still in effect. (Our facility is owned by the City of Atlanta and operated by CPAC, a 501©(3) charitable nonprofit organization.)
We have come such a long way over the last 18 years. CPAC has overcome many hurdles including saving and transforming a closed / condemned pool, made it through a recession and survived losing half our membership to a private sector health club. Now, as in the past, we need to be patient, steady and pragmatic to continue our progress and beat this pandemic together.
CPAC expects to have our inspection by May 15th. However, operations will not start till later. We will be communicating recommended guidelines from public health agencies as well. Therefore, let’s count our blessings of people, community and a unique aquatic facility, while praying for our leaders to discern the right path forward.
For planning purposes, CPAC is adjusting our swim team schedules with the goal to be ready for ALL our swim teams summer and year-round for children and adults to ideally be back in the water during Memorial Day Week. Our Atlanta summer leagues have not set any meet dates yet, but we have the ability to have meets either way when we get the all clear. USA Swimming is sharing recommendations regularly in this fluid situation. This summer will be different, but we will make the best of it and keep you posted.
Refunds will be issued if services are not rendered. If so, you will be given the option to convert funds to a charitable donation.
Also, CONTRIBUTIONS are being accepted to help offset lost revenues and ongoing expenses.
Thank you for your support and patience.
We look forward to serving you again soon.
God Bless All,
Chastain Park Athletic Club
